Momma Done the Best She Could”, was taken from the song “Drunken Hearted Man” by Robert Johnson. The image depicts the specter of the Delta Bluesman visiting his home in Robinsonville, MS, where his mother moved after he was born. He’s stopped by to pay his respects and to ponder what had become of his often times, troublesome life and to ease the pain of disappointing his dear mother. She had left him with his step-father in Memphis, TN at the age of about two. She then came back to uproot him, dragging the poor boy back down to Mississippi at the age of about 15. This gave Robert the chance to seek out his birth father. In doing so he found his REAL NAME and a sound that struck a chord in his soul…JOHNSON…and the DELTA BLUES. After leaving the area to study under Ike Zimmerman for a while, Robert returned to Dockery Farm and began to blaze a meteoric trail that was bright and all too short. He’s forgiven his mother and what’s more , he’s forgiven HIMSELF. As he takes one more look over his shoulder he is feeling that his time on this plain is nearing its end…but he has just a few more stops before he goes.
